New Vaccines and a Preventive Drug
Two new vaccines have been approved for use in the United States to prevent RSV in infants. One vaccine is given during pregnancy, while the other is given directly to infants. A new preventive drug is also being made available to healthcare providers to help protect high-risk infants from RSV infection.
Outlook for 2024
The 2022-2023 RSV season was one of the most severe in recent years. The CDC is predicting that the 2023-2024 season will be similar, with a high number of cases and hospitalizations.
