Early Life and Career
David Ray Roberts, nicknamed "Doc", was born on May 31, 1972. A Japanese-American, he attended Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, California.
Professional Baseball Career
Roberts began his professional baseball career as an outfielder. He played in the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs organizations, retiring in 2008 after a 10-year playing career.
Managerial Career
Los Angeles Dodgers
After his playing career, Roberts transitioned into management. In 2016, he was named the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, becoming the first minority manager in franchise history. Under his leadership, the Dodgers won the World Series in 2020, their first championship since 1988.
On Friday, the Dodgers announced a three-year contract extension with Roberts, locking him up through the 2025 season.
